Progress Tuesday 2nd September 2014
Dear all A splendidly busy day that was sunny during the morning and warm and dull during the afternoon which seem to tempt in a surprising number of visitors. Our service was supported by the EVRA shop and the Pullman Buffet Car that also dealt with a record number of Afternoon Tea clients. The DST battled on with Cathryn and serviced their locomotive selected for the forthcoming Festival Weekend. The LMSCA continued with the interior fit out of the Third Open and sanded the east side of the BTO ready for its first undercoat. Fred & Iris worked their magic on the Mess Hall and Platform 1 plants. The PWT strode forward with the new crossover largely completing the Road 1 side of the new installation which is today's illustration. The lone weed treatment person completed the Incline, Road 3 and the PW storage area and the dmu team concentrated on their support coach beautification together with a "B" exam on 50515. The Booking Halls at Duffield and Wirksworth had a productive day. Martin PS - After much soul searching and examination of previous year's results our experiment to open the Pullman Buffet Car on non operating days has proved to be the generator of losses. Thus from the 15th September the Buffet will only open on operating days. Special arrangements will be made when we have driver experience days or test customers. PPS - the expected arrival of the new "Bubble Car" from South Wales for the PWT has been somewhat delayed by the NATO conference taking part in Wales! Nonetheless, whilst the purchase has been funded, the transport remains a problem with a cost of around £2000 more contributions are needed for this major uplift of the work conditions for the PWT. PPPS - a short reminder of the long vanished feature of branch lines is shown http://youtu.be/SPbgK4i-J0k .
